Seasons greetings everyone! We’ve finally hit one of the most magical times of the year! Unfortunately, I regret to inform you all that I will not be writing an article every day in December for a “Month of Mirth” like I did for this year’s “Month of the Macabre”. Of course, the fact that we’re already ten days into December as of the time of this writing has probably told you that.
The main reason that I won’t be going into Christmas movies in depth like I did for horror movies is because there aren’t really any Christmas franchise films. The only Christmas franchise that I can think of off the top of my head would be the Santa Clause movies. I may talk about those at some point, just to discuss what I liked and disliked about the films.
With Christmas movies, it’s a lot more common to have remakes than it is to have sequels. Just this year, we’re getting a second remake of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I’m going to reserve judgement until I see this film, but it doesn’t look like it will be that good based on the trailers. Then again, it has Benedict Cumberbatch in it, so it can’t be too bad.
However, I do want to talk about some of my favorite Christmas stories, so next week I’ll discuss the holiday classic Miracle on 34th Street, as well as the various attempts to remake the film over the years. Until then, thank you for reading and have a wonderful day!
